"Evolution of Personality"

Help us each day to stand in love. 

Greetings to you all this evening it is I, teacher JarEl. Thank you for the 
enlivening discussion preceding my talk and as always it is good to be here. 
Welcome to those who are here for the first time and to those of you who have 
not been here for a while. 

Tonight we are going to begin a series of discussions dealing with the 
Personality. Tonight I would like to talk about the evolution of personality 
in the human mortal mind.  Personality on Urantia began its initial and 
pioneering work in the lives and minds of the first two mortal human beings 
who lived and evolved on this world. In your text the Urantia Book, these 
first two human parents are mentioned by the name of Andon and Fonda. It 
mentions that it was a phenomenon by which their minds were being prepared 
for the indwelling of the spirit of wisdom and worship to function. These two 
spiritual circuits are prerequisite for personality to begin to manifest. The 
rudimentary requirements of personality are the spirit of wisdom and the 
spirit of worship. Presently and in a timely fashion, thought adjusters came 
and indwelt these first two human parents. Also part of the  spiritual and 
functional relationship of the mind and personality. It is not so important 
to define personality as it is to begin to understand personality functioning 
in the mind and man's relationship to this personality. 

In previous discussions on the mind, and mind  phenomenon and  functional 
aspects of the mind, we touched upon the close association of spirit and 
mind. The ever important relationship of man's will and capacity to make 
decisions in relationship to mind, mind prerogatives and the reality which 
you create for yourselves. Personality is a very large system. In that as it 
begins to function in man, man begins to build a network and framework in 
which personality can begin to manifest. 

Personality, being connected with mind, is also connected with the 
intellectual, emotional and physical aspects of the human body. Initially it 
is strongly connected to the primitive ego system; the survival mechanism and 
to the dominance of man as a species on the world.  In the pattern of 
personality and its system, this network is designed to evolve the 
consciousness of the human beyond the ego-animal level into a person capable 
of discerning, seeking and knowing the spirit who lives within. Beyond this, 
there is in the mechanism of personality the potential and capacity for this 
person to gain identity with spirit through a very active participation of 
spiritual living, in bringing spirit and spiritual references down and make 
manifest on the human mortal level. Ultimately personality defines this 
person-explicitly and as a matter of fact. It is evidence that this person 
has been tried and tested and in all manners has chosen to do the will of the 
Father, as exemplified by the actions, duties, responsibilities and 
activities in this mortals career. Culminating  on that eventual day when the 
two, the Father and the Son, the Mother and the Daughter will become one. 
Urantia is particularly interesting in that, as concerns personality; it has 
barely begun to manifest outside of the animal-ego-survival syndrome. Thought 
adjusters have been on this planet for thousands of years. It is true that 
one would not notice this upon first glance. The activity of the thought 
adjuster in the human mind is constantly at work, meticulously and diligently 
presenting to the human mind components and spirit options to all decisions, 
situations, and thought patterns. This is how the thought adjuster initially 
works within the mind; getting the mind to become aware of otherness. Non the 
less it is a very important phenomenon of mind to have its identity with 
person-ness and self, I am not debating this issue. This is only prerequisite 
for the eventual identification of another self and another person within the 
same mind.

Part of the functioning of personality is the relationship between these two 
separate persons. The pure spirit person of God and the not so pure 
non-spirit of the human mortal in which this spirit habituates.  
Fundamentally in their relationship, evolves the capacity for human mortal 
survival after death. It involves a functional working relationship called a 
soul. The soul is not only a record of the achievements of spiritual 
activity; it also begins to replace fleeing and temporary concepts in the 
mind, with more substantial, trusting and faith based concepts of self and 
eternal reality. 

You are in the beginning stages of personality. You as individuals and a 
group are being trained to learn to stand within the presence of spirit, in 
the presence of love. To stand in love, and to act from love. It is not 
necessary to discuss this difficulty, but you are beginning to sense, based 
upon faith and experiential trust. You are beginning to glimpse into a 
reality and potential, far greater than the short distances you have already 
traversed in you lives. You have gone beyond seeing your end, into glimpsing 
your beginning, your future. The potential to achieve that which you set upon 
the focus of your mind. You are beginning to access the process whereby your 
thoughts and decisions are beginning to alter your circumstances and 
opportunities which are provided you now. 

We are not talking magic. We are beginning to see that there is a sensitive 
relationship to spirit and I will use this analogy again, it is like a little 
lit candle whose flame initial is very delicate; the slightest movement or 
breeze can blow this flame out. The initial stages of spiritual development 
are very delicate; this is where many stumble. The want concrete answers, 
evidence; factual and irrevocable information and experience. They want the 
high drama of Divine intervention, failing to see that the high-drama of 
Divine intervention unfolds at a rate proportional to the amount of energy 
and effort that the individual makes. Both in contacting and maintaining a 
relationship with the spirit within, and to begin to bear fruit and show 
evidence in your daily mortal lives that you are led by the spirit. You are 
of the spirit.

This is the function of personality. This pattern that is already in you; 
which is slowly evolving  as you begin to earn and grow into who you are and 
who you are becoming, you begin to see yourself in a new light; with a 
clearer mind; a motivated determination; to begin to activate the Father's 
will through your decisions and actions. 

I know that many of you are interested in a definition of personalities. When 
does it begin and start, and I understand your concerns about all these 
little mysteries? What is important is that you are becoming who you are. Who 
you are is brought to you by the perfect spirit who has volunteered to come 
here; who has studied you and prepared to bring this marvelous being into 
your animal mind; to diligently plant this seed and nurture the first 
delicate roots and new-born sprouted leaves of spirit identity within your 
human hearts and souls. The spirit begins to guide you, this little spiritual 
plant, this personality; to manifest and blossom into spiritual fruit your 
own beingness and your own personality. You think, 'what can I do?'  How can 
I understand to hold truer and more sure this path which I have now taken a 
walk upon?

You are constantly being loved and guided, and in many ways nurtured by the 
spirit within. This spirit constant nudges and provides opportunities which 
challenge you to see yourself in  a new and different way. Your Ego-mind will 
always question what spirit is presenting to you, because the spirit is 
presenting you with change. The ego-mind wants to hold onto its routine, 
comfort, its so-called stability, its familiarity, its isolation, its power, 
its fear, its patterns. What you hold onto the strongest is the first thing 
that spirit will challenge. The hardest to do is to decide to move forward 
and accept change. It is hard for each and every one of you. In the 
beginnings of my spiritual life, it was very difficult and challenging for me 
also. Little by little, I began to sense the meaning of something special, 
happening within me. Glimpses of something greater and more profound, a vital 
potential, which lured me into making more frequent decisions about the 
choices and opportunities I was being presented with. It does get easier.  In 
a certain sense it is a spiritual muscle which needs to be developed within 
the construct of the patterning personality. 

This is my lesson for this evening. I will now entertain any questions and 
concerns, which you may have.

student: JarEl, does our personality continue to grow after we fuse, or does 
it continue on up to Havona?

JarEl: Yes, the personality at fusion is defined as this new person, this new 
person is a spiritual baby and ample time is given for this baby to mature in 
spiritual eternity. You then gather merit and grace, through that which you 
endeavor to participate in doing the will of the Father throughout all 
eternity. The simple message of the master who said when he lived on this 
world will do here, 'Let he that is the greatest amongst you be the first to 
serve'. He, who was truly the greatest, came down here to serve. Personality 
gives you the badge to become a bonafide spiritual servant of the Father. As 
a servant in service, you will be presented with more adventure than you can 
possibly imagine; more joy and happiness than you can now fathom; more 
opportunity, knowledge, and growth than you can imagine possible.  

Student: JarEl, did I understand you to say that personality comes from the 
Father, coming from the Father it is there fore timeless, and a fragment of 
his personality is endowed to us for use in our lives. Is this part of our 
becoming one with the Father. 

JarEl: The personality is eternal, it is not a fragment of the Father, though 
a fragment of the Father brings the total pattern of the personality to the 
new being, and personality is that system or mechanism in which you develop 
into relationship-oneness with God the Father. Yes, to that part of your 
question. It is person-ness which the Father gives you, in his likeness and 
being. As a co-partner and eternal companion, it is the Father who has made 
the adjustment to comedown and indwell your type of human mind, and it is 
your effort that matches the Fathers effort, which attains true expression in 
oneness with the Father, your identity. You are able to grasp aspects of this 
identity even now, because everything is interrelated. Who you are, right and 
who you were, is important only in that it is helpful in determining who you 
are becoming. It is this pattern that is slowly being fed to you that you 
respond to changes within yourself, helping to dictate and determine the 
types of decisions you make, and how you begin to respond to situations from 
a spiritual stance. You can be identified by your voice, and on the material 
level you can be identified with how you look; on a spiritual level it is how 
you decide and act which identifies you. It is what you bring to the table of 
God's feast.

Student: Knowing that personality is a part of the Father and that everyone 
has personality, then it would help us in our relating to others to see them 
as personality endowed by the Father, as well as indwelt by Him. Personality 
and the thought adjuster both come from the Father, for us to use and grow 
with.

JarEl: It is important to recognize the spirit of the Father in others. You 
may not be able to see the Father through some of the actions of your 
brothers and sisters; but beyond these actions and their seemingly unfocused 
and crude intentions, there is at work something deeper and more profound at 
work in them; that they themselves are just beginning to relate to. It is 
their beacon,  which is beginning to focus and center them. Be not confused 
by confusion.

Student: I think that for the words you say, we in this room are very 
fortunate to be able to have an intellectual understanding of our 
possibilities and the great potential we have to continue our evolution, and 
to grow from our human mind to be led by the spirit. Now the most important 
thing for us here, is not only to have intellectual understanding, but also 
to make that effort starting today. To make the effort to walk the talk, to 
start living in love. To start seeing in every single one their own level of 
evolution and to meet them with loving service and non-judgement, then we are 
able to reach to love of being with them. 

JarEl; We are fortunate to be graced with your presence here, for you know 
whereof you speak. It is wonderful to sit here and intellectualize about who 
we are and how we can be, much more challenging to climb down from those 
peaks and begin to walk in the valleys of humankind to prove who we are.

Student; Father must have a good sense of humor to enjoy all of the antics 
and mistakes we make.

JarEl: Yes, Father has an eternal sense of humor; The first source of humor.

Student: What was just said, is the kind of person I would like to become on 
a full time basis. I am that was sometime, but then. I had the thought to 
record all of my thoughts for the day, and when I thought on it, I realize 
that some of my thoughts are not so pleasant. A lot of this has to do with my 
judgement of other people. Since I have been involved in twelve step, one of 
the steps is to ask God to remove defects of character. So lately I have been 
asking God to remove the defect of judgements towards others. I notice that 
it lifts temporarily and then it comes back. 
I would like you to respond on asking for removal of defects of character, 
which affects our personality.
